Menopause and Oestrogen

27th June 2021

Menopause is universal and effects all women at some point in their lives.

The oestrogen story.

In doing some of my own research about oestrogen as looking into going on HRT to help balance my hormones, I came across a great podcast ‘hormones for women’.

I have written a blog from the information given in the podcast below as found the information very interesting and I feel it helped me make an informed decision to try HRT for a few months.

I am still on the fence a little bit as to if it is right for me long term or not, but I can already feel the difference it makes, aches and pains are reduced, periods are less (four weeks of bleeding at a time was normal) and I have felt better in myself.

So, I thought I would share with you some of the information from the podcast to help you understand how important oestrogen is for our bodies to continue living as healthily as we can with vitality as we get older.

But also, being informed of the risks although according to the podcast the risks are very minimal.

Blog ( sorry its a bit long)

No matter how great we are at exercising or a good diet eventually every woman gets into menopause, so it's natural, it's universal but that doesn't make it beneficial.

It's really nature's way of turning us all into grandmas, our organs are going to start to suffer and we just don't have the same level of optimal health that we are used to have.

Well, many of us don't like to just accept that and we say okay so it's natural, but I really like all the health benefits of having hormones.

Finding the right hormone medication that's most aligned with the way the body was designed to work, to replace the hormones in a way that the body is designed to have them in the body to achieve physiologically levels.

20 years ago, when the Women's Health initiative came out everyone got so frightened of hormones because of the misinformation and using the wrong product on the wrong people but products have changed now.

As long as you maintain hormones at a physiological level the cells which don't know how old you are will just do what they are designed to do.

Once you recognise information is the whole point of having hormones, delivered messages to the cells so that the cells know what to do.

In exchange you're going to have the cells of your body that have the information they need so that they can do their jobs optimally so every organ, like your brains, your bone, your gut, your heart, everything is going to work more similar to how they work when you're optimally healthy say in your mid 20s.

The menopausal societies say that no matter how old a woman is she can benefit from vaginal oestrogen.

Now it's important to know that breast cancer in menopausal women isn't something that just pops up it's probably found after it actually was begun like 20 years later so it's a slowly evolving cancer and it's not caused by taking hormones, when you take the bio identical human identical.

If you have breast cancer already and it's already there, but you didn't know, it's possible that you could stimulate the growth because oestrogen is about growth and healing and proliferation, like if you get a big cut on your skin oestrogen helps us to stop the bleeding.

So, when you have an injury oestrogen regulates the platelets to create clotting, it doesn't just do that randomly, it happens when you need it and then it also creates new blood vessels, it also creates new tissue through different growth factors that are all promoted by oestrogen.

Oestrogen is about healing and growth and we did not evolve to have breast cancer, it's kind of a modern disease and so we were not programmed to recognise it, and so when you have breast cancer it thought of it's like damaged tissue you, so oestrogen to the rescue, it's going to heal it, so unfortunately it's actually breast cancer, so oestrogen if you have breast cancer and then you give oestrogen there's a chance that it might promote growth or create new blood vessels to it because it just thinks of it as damaged tissue, it's trying to heal and support.

If you maintain a healthy lifestyle and lower toxic exposures because it's the endocrine disruptors that are really responsible for the increase in premenopausal breast cancer in large measure, so if you can keep your endocrine disruptors to a minimum in terms of what's in your body and you maintain proper nutrition and business and all the other things and then you actually maintain hormones through the transition and into menopause that you will lower your incidents of residence.

When you maintain oestrogen, you reduce inflammation in the breast, as it's inflammation that ultimately is what is responsible for DNA breakage and that's when cancer gets initiated.

So, if you can keep inflammation down then you should reduce cancer incidence and that's why cancer is now understood as a metabolic disorder that is related to inflammation, which underlies all of the metabolic disorders that we associate with ageing.

Manufacturers that make oestrogen, there is a gel one that goes on the arms and one that goes on the thighs and you know some people love one or the other or there is a patch you cannot completely hide if you have no clothes on.

Basically, the entire autonomic nervous system has modulation due to oestrogen the thinking part of the brain and also the immune system of the brain which is often overlooked so the immune system is like everywhere and there is a type of immune cell the white blood cell called macrophage.

The microglia in the brain are sort of like the centurions of the brain they are on alert they stay in sort of a natural resting state, sort of watching out guarding for like invaders.

So, the brain can repair and gobble up the pathogen, a virus or a bacteria that's getting in and that is heavily regulated and modulated by oestrogen.

So basic research informed me;

Oestrogen

Oestrogen effects all the organs of your body.

All organs have receptors for oestrogen, so it is so important for the whole wellbeing of your body.

At a certain time in our lives our ovaries stop working, we lose fertility, we lose a lot of other things and need supported.

The mitochondria in our heart in order to function needs Estrodial to give your heart energy. Without it our hearts become stiffer, doesn’t relax as well and becomes deficient in being able to create energy.

All our organs communicate together, many of our organs produce Oestrogen and use it, we have very little testosterone to help.

There are three main types of oestrogen your body makes.

Estrodial is the most common type in women of childbearing age

Estriol is the main oestrogen during pregnancy

Estrone is the only oestrogen your body makes after menopause when menstrual periods stop

Function of Oestrogen

Keeps cholesterol in control.

Protects bone health.

Oestrogen affects

Your brain including your mood.

Your bones, hair, skin and other tissues

How does Oestrogen work?

The ovaries which produce a woman's eggs are the main source of oestrogen for your body

your adrenal glands are located at the top of each kidneys and make small amounts of this hormone so does fat tissue

Oestrogen moves through your blood and acts anywhere, everywhere in your body

What does the oestrogen do to your body.

Regulates the menstrual cycle

Affects the reproductive tract the urinary tract the heart and blood vessels bones breast skin hair mucous membranes pelvic muscles and the brain

Oestrogen and your menstrual cycle

your oestrogen levels change throughout the month they are highest in the middle of your menstrual cycle and lowest during the period.

Oestrogen levels drop at menopause

You can check your oestrogen level by giving a blood or urine sample at the doctors

Low oestrogen occurs in women is during the menopause or after surgical removal of the ovaries.

Symptoms of low oestrogen

Menstrual periods that are less frequent or that stop.

Hot flashes and all-night sweats.

Sleeping problems.

Dryness and thinning of the vagina.

Low sexual desire.

Mood swings.

Dry skin.

Some women get menstrual migraine before a menstrual period because of the drop in oestrogen.

Excess oestrogen can lead to many other problems.

Weight gain mainly in your hips waist and thighs.

Menstrual problems such as light or heavy bleeding.

Worsening of PMS.

Fibrocystic breasts which are non-cancerous breast lumps.

Fibroids which are non-cancerous tumours in the uterus.

Fatigue.

Loss of sex drive.

Feeling depressed or anxious

Oestrogen side effects and risks

The risk factors include blood clots, oestrogen increases the risk of blood clots which can cause stroke heart attack and even death.

Oestrogen may increase your risk of certain cancers specifically breast cancer.

Health risks of HRT include increased risk of endometrial cancer but only when oestrogen is taken without progestogen.

Significant sources of dietary oestrogen.

Phytoestrogens have a similar chemical structure to that of oestrogen and may mimic its hormonal actions

Flax seeds

Soy beans

Dried fruits

Sesame seeds

Garlic

Peach's

CBD Blog

As a holistic therapist I often get asked about CBD oil.

This feels a big subject to answer and I always try to come from my own personal experience when answering and to the best of my knowledge.

Personally, I have used CBD oil, I have hemp CBD Capsules that I use daily or at least when I remember! This has helped me with stress, anxiety and other symptoms related to the peri-menopause.

I have given my dogs CBD oil for the last five years at least, and I really think it has made a big difference in fighting of cancer, increased energy and movement and keep them well.

From my understanding CBD works naturally with our body system to create balance where it is needed, heal our bodies and block pain.

I read a while ago that Cannabis finds the rogue cells we don’t want in our body and suffocates them from oxygen, so they die, which is why I have always had the belief that CBD in whatever form kills cancer.

I have done a little research for my blog to help me get the information as correct as I can, I am sure some of you may be able to add to this information.

The basic information on CBD

Researchers are still learning about the impact on our body although been around for thousands of years.

What is it?

CBD is the abbreviation for cannabidiol found in marijuana and hemp, it is a naturally occurring substance and used in lots of products like oils and edibles to impart a feeling of relaxation and calm

Tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, is another compound found in the cannabis plant that makes you feel high as is psychoactive.

Full-spectrum CBD still shouldn't cause you to feel “high.” though, this depends on the product's potency and your dosage.

The plant Cannabis sativa has two primary species, hemp and marijuana. Both contain CBD, but there's a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has very low (less than 0.3%) levels of THC compared to marijuana.

When people talk about hemp oil, they're referring to oil extracted from the seeds of the hemp plant. There are no cannabinoids—CBD or THC—in hemp oil. This ingredient is packed with healthy fats and often appears in beauty products for its moisturising benefits.

CBD oil is considered to be a medicine in the UK

The UK has permitted CBD oil sale as a ‘nutritional supplement’ for a while now. However, recently CBD oil was reclassified to be a “medicine.” So, the British government has started to recognise the many health benefits of CBD products like CBD oil.

Research

Researchers have found CBD oil to have many positive effects on seriously ill people

Research has found CBD oil to be of potential medicinal use in:

o Cancer treatment

o Pain relief

o Acne prevention

o Controlling epileptic seizures

o Anxiety relief

Our CB2 receptors.

Our CB2 receptors are in the peripheral nervous system, influencing pain, and inflammation.

CBD influences (activates) our cannabinoid receptors in some way, the enzymes break down the cannabinoids, the endocannabinoids look to bind with receptors.

Turns your frown upside down

cannabis binds to the receptors in your brain that promote anandamide, making it a great antidepressant. (chocolate does this to)

Cannabis & Cancer

Cannabis has shown promising results with its ability to kill cancer. It has been shown to treat not just the symptoms of chemotherapy that most people think of, like vomiting or loss of appetite, but it actually treats the cancer symptoms.

It can control pain not just of cancer but of cancer meds. It has shown potential to kill the cancer cells themselves.

Women’s health issues.

CBD is extremely useful when it comes to women’s health issues

May be beneficial for women to help alleviate symptoms during their period, controlling menstrual pain, reducing bloating and stabilising mood.

What may CBD help with?

Anxiety

Insomnia

Chronic pain

Relief of pain & inflammation associated with arthritis.

Cannabis brings with it many powerful benefits that can make lives bearable, remove pain, and fight cancer.

Some side effects of CBD

Dry mouth

Reduced appetite.

Diarrhoea

Drowsiness

Fatigue

CBD may interact with other medications you are taking such as blood thinners.

Concern of using CBD

Unreliability of the purity and dosage of CBD in products.

Are you creating to much cortisol ?

June 2012

I am writing this blog about cortisol because I think as women, we need to be more aware of this hormone in our stressful very busy lives.

Just stop for a moment and think about your life and how stressed you feel, do you have weight gain that you cannot lose, do you have memory loss and brain fog, feel tired but still push your body to try and lose weight by doing exercise classes, running or going to the gym most days?

What if your body is creating more cortisol through your busy stressful lifestyle and the high impact gym training and running and all those things you are doing to try and lose weight are actually increasing your cortisol which is increasing your weight gain.

Cortisol is a stress hormone released by your adrenal glands make and release the hormone cortisol into your blood stream.

Cortisol helps your body deal with stressful situations as your brain triggers its release in response to many different kinds of stress, however when cortisol levels are too high for too long this hormone can hurt you more than it helps.

Overtime high levels of cortisol may cause weight gain, high blood pressure, disrupts sleep, negatively impact your mood and reduce your energy levels and contributes to diabetes.

It may cause fatigue, affect your memory and contribute to mental cloudiness or brain fog, it also hampers your immune system and make you more prone to infections.

In very rare cases very high cortisol levels can lead to crushing’s syndrome a very rare but serious disease, fortunately there are many things you can do to reduce your levels.

Lifestyle diet and relaxation tips to lower your cortisol levels;

No caffeine at night.

Limit exposure to bright light at night.

Limit distractions before bed.

Take naps.

Have adequate sleep, go to bed each night at the same time wake up at the same time and get out in the sunshine.

Limit alcohol

Exercise but not too much only doing moderate exercise using 40 to 60% of maximum effort.

Avoid stressful thinking, try mindfulness and replace worrying or anxiety with thoughts of gratitude and positivity.

Listen to relaxing music for 30 minutes every day.

Have fun, cortisol levels decrease in response to laughter.

Develop a hobby like gardening to decrease your levels.

Look after your own happiness.

Maintain healthy relationships, friends and family are a great source of happiness in life as well as great stress.

Try not to be judgemental, be empathic and forgiving to create a stable and warm family life.

Interact with a pet, studies show that interacting with an animal companion reduces stress and lowers cortisol levels.

Be your best self, feelings of shame guilt or inadequacy can later create negative thinking and elevated cortisol.

Develop a habit of forgiving others is critical in relationships, learn to forgive yourself and move on.

Improve your well-being as a couple maybe research a facilitator to help forgiveness and resolve conflict, this will reduce your cortisol levels.

Perform acts of kindness to improve your cortisol levels.

Try different relaxation techniques.

Go for a monthly massage to reduce stress and relax muscles.

Eat a whole food plant-based diet

If needed add supplements.

Take deep breaths

Reduce your caffeine intake and processed food.

write in a journal

Indulge in hobbies

Taking certain supplements fish oil supplements and an Asian herbal medicine called ashwagandha have both been shown to reduce cortisol levels.

Taking turmeric, curcumins have a positive antidepressant and anti-anxiety effect and can lower stress hormones such as cortisol.

Try lemon balm and camomile.

Stay hydrated.

Drinking green tea can lower the level of stress hormone cortisol, half a cup a day lowers the risk of developing depression and dementia to, can only be a good thing.

So, our natural flight or fight response in our bodies has kept us alive for thousands of years.

When cortisol is released in response to fear or stress by the adrenal glands as part of the fight or flight mechanism this causes heightened levels of breathing and an increase in heart rate these short-term bursts of cortisol are necessary to help us recover from the effects of stress

If you have to much cortisol you may see and experience the following;

Rapid weight gain, mainly in the face the chest and abdomen contrasted with slender arms and legs.

You may get a flushed and round face.

High blood pressure.

Osteoporosis.

Skin changes, as in bruises and purple stretch marks.

Muscle weakness.

Mood swings which show in anxiety, depression or irritability.

You can develop a food intolerance to any food especially if you have a high stress life and have elevated cortisol, but most common ones are beef eggs shellfish gluten grains tree nuts and some protein.

Stress and physical and emotional stress constantly within hour 24/7 drain the body of magnesium it is shown in studies at the higher the magnesium the lower the cortisol.

(Take magnesium as a supplement or have an Epsom salt bath as magnesium through the skin is one of the best ways of receiving it.)

Elevated cortisol levels may lead to overeating and weight gain.

I wanted to share this blog with you today because I think that many of us are effected by cortisol which can have a dramatic effect on our lives and all we have to do is breathe, relax and self-care.

So, let’s stop giving ourselves a hard time, we were not born to be perfect! Stop pushing our bodies when they say no, just quieten your mind and listen.

It's okay not to be okay sometimes.

14th May

It’s okay not to be okay sometimes.

It is mental health awareness month and after the last year trying to live through a pandemic, we are more aware than ever.

So, what I am saying is that it is sometimes okay not to be okay, just be still, accept, release and when your ready move on.

Sometimes all it takes is a good night’s sleep, sometimes it takes a bit longer, sometimes it is a lifelong challenge to feel okay.

Usually everything has its time and becomes a memory at some point, but it feels a long time when you are in it feeling not okay.

Sometimes its because you are living or working in the wrong place, in relationships with the wrong people, living a life that no longer serves you and does not bring you happiness.

Sometimes you lose someone or something that you love, and you go through your personal journey of bereavement and it hurts like hell, in time I promise you will feel lighter and you begin to heal and feel okay again.

Sometimes our hormones turn us into mad crazy women, we shout, scream, cry, overreact and feel as if we have no control even at moments when we should be happy. It’s okay not to be okay it will pass.

Sometimes long dark winters makes us feel sad, it's okay it will pass.

Sometimes sunshine, friends, music, walking, running, good nutrition & supplements helps us feel okay and this is all we need, but sometimes our brains need chemicals to rebalance and need medication to and this is okay.

Sometimes you need to let go of judgements, resentment, worries and all the gremlins that are holding you back from finding your real authentic self and happiness.

Always love yourself, always remember when saying no to others you are saying yes to yourself, never compare yourself to others, follow your hearts desire & souls’ journey and on your life’s, journey remember sometimes it’s okay not to be okay.

My story of how I became a holistic & massage therapist,  teacher and holistic life coach.

2nd May 2021

I often get asked about how I became a holistic & massage therapist, teacher and Holistic life coach ….

Here goes

in 2003 my dad died of cancer and this changed my world, it made me look at my life and realise that life is short, and I was not happy.

Within the next year, I got divorced and became a single mom of three young children, dogs, cats and even a horse.

I went back to work full time, teaching hairdressing, which was really hard, as although I loved teaching and going to work every-day, it was really hard and stressful with three young children to look after, love and nurture, dogs to walk, cats to feed and a horse to look after and manage. (sadly, I had to sell my beautiful horse Bobby)

Some days when I got to work, I realised that I hadn’t even had time to look at what I was wearing that day! To the point where my manager said I was inappropriately dressed as I wore leggings, and my top wasn’t as long as I thought! To be honest I didn’t have any time to do more than just laugh it off in the staffroom, I don’t think anyone would have really understood what it took to get to work that day if I had tried to explain. Getting three children delivered to nursery or at a friends to wait for the school bus, dogs walked, everyone dressed and fed by 7.30 am was a hell of an achievement every day.

But they were not happy that uniforms were soon introduced as mandatory, whoops!

One day a friend turned round to me and said I needed Reiki, I had not really heard much about what Reiki was, but I felt so stressed, I would try anything.

This began a new Story in my life, from receiving that first Reiki treatment I was totally hooked I wanted to learn this for myself. I felt so different, calmer, more in control and the best bit was my heart began to heal and feel lighter.

Reiki had a huge impact on my life and my children’s lives, it clarified my values and what was important in our lives and helped me live life in the best way I could with love and positivity.

I trained in Reiki and received my attunements and I signed up for a holistic life coaching course as I wanted to learn more about the holistic way of life, make changes in my life and I didn't know where to begin.

Holistic life coaching showed me the way step by step, and after a year of doing the course, I became qualified as a holistic life coach and I also had a new beginning with a clear path of where I was going in life, where my new journey, my Story was directed to.

I left teaching full time and became self-employed working as a Reiki and holistic therapist, I also did some mobile hairdressing to keep food on the table while I built up my business.

I knew this wasn't going to be an easy journey, but I needed to create a new Balance in my life and my children's life, be able to go to sports days at school and be a mum again, no longer having child minders after school until I got home, a time to focus on my family.

Once I began my new journey, my life started to fall into place, I met my new man, had another baby (as if three wasn’t enough !!) got premises for my first holistic therapy centre at Brougham Hall and kept learning, developing and always growing.

Which has led me to where I am now in my journey, I work in the most beautiful, friendliest place in Penrith called Adlib full of the most amazing women. I work here full time as a holistic and massage therapist and teach in my own Training Academy.

All my courses are accredited by the International practitioners of holistic medicine and I am so immensely proud of this achievement of experience and knowledge.

My newest development in my work is women’s health and holistic well-being coaching and courses for personal and professional journeys, the difference and transformation I am seeing in women’s lives from working with me on this fills me with so much joy and a great feeling of achievement.

My last part of the journey on where I am now is organising a holistic and spiritual well being festival at the George Hotel on the 17th July 2021. This was originally planned for March last year but got postponed due to the Covid pandemic. Fingers crossed all goes ahead now as planned and we have an amazing day.

Energy and the Chakras

4th April 2021

Would you like to know a little more about Chakra's what they are and where to find them ?

Chakra’s are contained in the etheric body which is the layer of the aura nearest to the body this is where imbalances and illness can be felt by the therapist as accumulated energy.

The Chakra’s are the energy centres connected to the life force energy which distributes energy and wellbeing to the nervous system, the circulatory system and endocrine glands.

Reiki and reflexology stimulate the chakras which in turn affects the nervous system and the circulatory system.

The Chakra’s are wheels of rotating energies centres of the body.

There are seven major Chakra’s and 21 minor Chakra’s.

Chakras can become blocked or partially closed when you suffered with trauma, when this happens the endocrine glands are unable to function to their full potential and our physical body suffers.

We can treat the chakras with colour, crystals, Reiki and reflexology.

The seven major Chakras are;

1 Crown Chakra which is just above the Crown of the head, top of the big toe and top of the thumb.

It is Violet/white light colour in colour and visualised as 1000 petaled Lotus flower representing Infinity.

2 Brow Chakra is at the centre of the brow between the eyebrows, found on the spinal reflex of the hand and feet between the 1st and 2nd phalanges. Visualised as two indigo petals of a Lotus flower.

3 Throat Chakra is in the throat area between the two clavicle bones, on the spinal reflex of the hands and feet halfway along second phalanges.

It is a blue Lotus flower with 16 petals.

4 Heart Chakra situated between the 4th and 5th vertebrae. On the spinal reflex of the feet and lies where the second phalange of thumb joins the metacarpal bone.

It is represented as a green Lotus flower with 12 petals.

5 Solar plexus Chakra about three finger widths above the belly button, on the spinal reflex located at the back of the cuneiform bone where it meets the navicular bone on the hands and feet.

It is bright yellow Lotus flower with ten petals

6 Sacral chakra situated halfway between the naval and pubic bone.

On your feet it is where the navicular bone meets the calcaneum, on the hands it is at the base of the metacarpal bone.

It is symbolised as an orange Lotus flower with six petals.

7 Base Chakra/ root Chakra is at the base of the spine. On your feet it is at the edge of the calcaneum and on your hands it is at the bulbous point of the radius.

Symbolised by deep red Lotus flower with four petals .

Women love and pick themselves up after a fall

To all you beautiful women, our emotions are our strength, we love with all our heart and protect those we love with all our heart.

When we go through heartache and it actually feels our hearts have broken our strength grows.

We get to a time in our lives when we may of experienced the loss of many relationships, boyfriends, girlfriends, friendships, but that loss soon disappears when we meet our love, our soul mate, the person who brings out the best in us and helps us grow.

Sometimes that relationship has had its time and we need to let go and find ourselves again as 'I', this is a difficult yet meaningful time.

Again our strength grows, we are strong for our children, we hold our heads high with dignity and work hard in our jobs while balancing home, children, work, life and ' I'.

In time the juggling of life gets easier and feels normal, who we are now feels confusing as we are not the person we were, but waiting for our new self to emerge stronger than ever and ready to love again. We always need to heal and let go, rediscover ourselves and grow.

There are times when we need to be the warrior, when we need the strength in our personal battles, then there are times we need to let the loving Empress back in and let the door to love open again.

If you are ready to start a new chapter in your life and need help with a listening ear, understanding and holistic wisdom, please get in touch with me as together we can create your new transformational beginning.

With love

To all beautiful women just like you.

You listen to your soul and know the meaning of life

You change how you see things and the world changes

Your mind is open and ready for new knowledge

You are the student the mentor the teacher

You release and let go of all that no longer serves you and which holds you back

You are a woman, a friend a mum, a wife

The Empress, the warrior, the lover the nurturer

You bring strength courage and empowerment to all you love

You have the personal power to create nurture and transform

You are authentically you

Your smile changes the world

your kindness helps others

you bring passion a voice to be heard you are what you have become

your work is not work as he loved what you do

Beautiful women of our time.

11th September 2020

We are getting ready to begin a new chapter in our lives once we reach over the age of 40 years old, to re-affirm who we are firstly to our selves then to the world and become our authentic selves.

We used to waste time about what other people thought and now it feels life is far to short for anything other than what brings us happiness and joy and this includes people.

We are all going through a big shift within our lives as we grapple through the peri-menopause and menopause symptoms which is both a physical and psychological difficult time, but we do this(sometimes in survival mode) as we push through life without expressing our own needs but supporting others whilst still trying to achieve our own goals.

This to a lot of us may feel like a crisis, but in fact this is a period of time for real opportunities for growth and create a more authentic life.

I know I am certainly not ready to stop and be a house wife ever, I want to keep moving forwards, learning, developing personally and within my career. It is never to late to stop learning and my list just keeps growing.

11/9/20

We wear many hats within our day, mum, wife, partner, daughter, friend, colleague, taxi driver, business woman, but our self care hat is usually at the bottom of the list. If we do not give ourselves time for self care (which could be a pampering session, reading a book, walking in the woods, yoga, meditation) then we are not being the best of ourselves to wear all the other hats well. So go and buy yourself a new sexy hat just for you and self care, then prioritise this hat as the first one you put on every day you deserve it.

You became who you aspired to be

September 12th 2020

You believed you could and you did!

This is what we all want to write down in our life's story.

Life changes around us all the time, people come and go, children leave home, work sometimes no longer fulfils us and this is our opportunity to become the author of our time and destiny ready for new adventures.

New challenges, new goals, new future.

It all begins with a thought.......

Menopause and symptoms

The menopause is such a big subject to begin writing about and everyone has their own story and unique combination of symptoms.

When I started with the peri-menopause it was a bit of a shock, I had heard about the hot flushes and night sweats which were bad enough, but the constant aching body joints, itchy skin, foggy brain, anxiety and sleep, memory lapses of names of people and things, anxiety and loss of energy are all real and sometimes difficult to deal with when the pace of life gets quicker and expectations higher. We change to becoming a crone , a woman of wisdom, experience and knowledge to pass down all we know to our daughters and the maidens in life. We also change in what we want now in life for our own fulfilment, we want happiness, joy, love, to feel attractive and yes we still want to feel sexy!

I have used herbal remedies, vitamin supplements, CBD oil. herbal teas to help me, I have practised yoga most days, given myself Reiki and listened to meditations.

I also looked to my female friends for help and understanding, to realise I am not going mad and yes as women we are all in this together, and we do need support and love at this time....

The Menopause

The menopause starts usually between the ages of 45 years old and 55 years old, but can begin much earlier.

Symptoms

Hot flushes (Sage tea and Ladies Mantle)

Night sweats

Mood swings

Head aches ( Cool'n'smooth, ear piercing, Hopi candle therapy, Head massage)

Joint pain ( nettles, Magnesium Sulphate, turmeric )

Digestive problems ( Aloe Vera juice)

Muscle tension ( Yoga)

Itchy skin ( hydrating creams, coconut oil, evening primrose oil)

Fatigue and extreme tiredness ( Ginseng, B vitamins and good nutrition)

Anxiety ( CBD oil, Bach flower rescue remedy, Reiki)

Disrupted sleep ( Sleep hypnosis and meditations)

Lack of focus and concentration. ( limit screen time, good balanced diet, good night sleep, eat a good breakfast, meditate)

Weight gain ( good nutrition, balanced diet and exercise)

Memory lapses (Walnuts)

Emotions fluctuating ( B vitamins and pulsatilla

Depression ( a woman is 4 times more likely to be affected of this in menopause age than a woman below 45 years old)

Panic disorder

The skin - the menopause causes changes to the skin as the body stops making as much collagen

.You lose fat under the skin and the skins elasticity drops, this combined with dryness also caused by hormonal changes can cause sagging, especially around the neck, cheeks, jaw line . Fine lines and wrinkles, crows feet and lines above the upper lip. Follow a good skin care routine with lovely rich moisturising hydrating products.

Menopause Diet

Eat lots of fruit and vegetables, whole grains, high quality protein products, dairy products, phytoestrogens' ( flax seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, nuts and seeds ) healthy fats and Omego 3, tofu  and soy beans

I have included nettles in my diet which has honestly made a huge difference in relief from muscle and joint pain.

Exercise

Find an exercise you love that you can do everyday, I do yoga and walking everyday and would like to run more.

Self care

This is a time when self care, you time is even more precious and you are definitely  worth it, so book in for a massage or pampering session , read a book, do meditations, go for walks and spend time doing what you love with the people you love.
